Hand-tied and tape-in extensions for added length, volume, and versatility.
About Our Hair Extension Services
Hair extensions have evolved dramatically in recent years, and at Studio 360 Salon in Chatham Township, New Jersey, we offer the latest, most natural-looking, and least damaging extension methods available. Whether you dream of longer, fuller hair, want to add volume to fine or thinning strands, or simply crave the versatility to change your look without waiting for your natural hair to grow, our extension specialists can create a seamless, undetectable result that looks and moves exactly like your own hair. We specialize in hand-tied and tape-in extensions, two of the most advanced and gentle methods in the industry, and we use only the highest-quality, ethically sourced human hair, including the Christian Michael brand known for its exceptional quality, natural texture, and long lifespan.
Hand-tied extensions are widely considered the gold standard in professional hair extensions. This method uses a specialized beaded-row foundation system to secure small, hand-crafted wefts of hair to your natural strands. The result is incredibly flat, lightweight, and virtually undetectable, even in fine hair. Hand-tied extensions distribute weight evenly across the foundation row, minimizing stress on individual hair follicles and making them one of the least damaging extension methods available. They are ideal for clients who want maximum volume and length with a natural look and comfortable wear. Hand-tied extensions can be customized extensively, with your stylist selecting the number of rows, weft density, and color matching to create your perfect look.
Tape-in extensions are another excellent option, offering a quick, lightweight, and affordable entry point into the world of hair extensions. Thin, pre-taped wefts of hair are sandwiched around small sections of your natural hair, lying flat against the scalp for a seamless, comfortable result. Tape-in extensions are faster to install than hand-tied extensions, making them a popular choice for clients who want beautiful, natural-looking length and volume with minimal appointment time. They are also easy to maintain, with reinstall appointments typically taking less than an hour.
At Studio 360, we exclusively use the Christian Michael brand of extension hair, a premium line known for its exceptional quality, natural luster, and impressive longevity. Christian Michael extensions are made from ethically sourced, 100 percent human Remy hair, meaning the cuticles are intact and aligned in the same direction for a smooth, tangle-free result that behaves just like natural hair. This premium hair can be colored, styled with heat tools, and washed just like your own hair, giving you complete versatility and a result that is truly indistinguishable from your natural strands.

What to Expect During Your Hair Extension Journey
Step 1: Complimentary Consultation. Your extension journey begins with a thorough, no-obligation consultation. Your stylist will assess your natural hair’s condition, texture, and density, discuss your goals for length and volume, explain the differences between hand-tied and tape-in methods, and recommend the best approach for your hair type and lifestyle. Color matching is also done during this visit, ensuring a flawless blend from day one.
Step 2: Hair Ordering & Preparation. Based on your consultation, your stylist will order your custom Christian Michael extension hair in the appropriate length, color, and quantity. If custom coloring of the extensions is needed, this will be done before your installation appointment to ensure a perfect match.
Step 3: Installation. On installation day, your stylist will create the foundation rows (for hand-tied) or prepare the tape-in sections, then carefully attach each weft for optimal placement, comfort, and natural movement. The extensions are then custom-cut and blended with your natural hair for a seamless finish. A full hand-tied installation typically takes two to three hours, while tape-ins can often be completed in one to two hours.
Step 4: Styling & Education. After installation, your stylist will blow-dry and style your new hair, showing you the full effect of your extensions. You will receive detailed instructions on how to wash, brush, sleep with, and style your extensions at home, as well as which products to use and which to avoid. This education is critical for maximizing the life and beauty of your extensions.
Step 5: Ongoing Maintenance. Extensions require regular maintenance to stay looking their best and to protect your natural hair. Hand-tied extensions need a move-up every six to eight weeks, while tape-ins need reinstallation every six to eight weeks. During these appointments, your stylist will remove the extensions, inspect your natural hair, and reinstall the extensions closer to the root for continued seamless blending.
Hair Extension FAQs
What is the difference between hand-tied and tape-in extensions?
Hand-tied extensions use a beaded-row foundation system to secure hand-crafted wefts, creating an incredibly flat, lightweight, and natural result. They are ideal for clients who want maximum volume and a completely undetectable finish. Tape-in extensions use thin, pre-taped wefts sandwiched around sections of natural hair. They are quicker to install, often more affordable, and great for clients who want a beautiful, natural result with a faster appointment time.
Will extensions damage my natural hair?
When installed, maintained, and removed by a trained professional, extensions should not damage your natural hair. At Studio 360, we use the gentlest methods available and carefully monitor the health of your natural hair at every maintenance appointment. Following our aftercare instructions and keeping up with your maintenance schedule are the best ways to ensure your natural hair stays healthy throughout your extension journey.
How long do hair extensions last?
The hair itself, when using high-quality Christian Michael extensions, can last six months to over a year with proper care. The installation needs regular maintenance every six to eight weeks. During reinstall appointments, the same hair is simply moved up and reattached, extending the life of your investment.
Can I color, curl, and style my extensions?
Yes! Because we use 100 percent human Remy hair from Christian Michael, your extensions can be treated exactly like your natural hair. You can blow-dry, curl, flat iron, and style them freely. We recommend using a heat protectant and avoiding excessive heat to maximize the longevity of the hair.
How do I sleep with extensions?
We recommend braiding your extensions in a loose braid or low ponytail before bed to prevent tangling. Sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase also reduces friction and helps maintain the smoothness and integrity of the extension hair.
Can I exercise and swim with extensions?
Absolutely. You can work out, swim, and engage in all your normal activities with extensions. We recommend tying your hair back during exercise and rinsing with clean water after swimming in chlorinated or saltwater pools. Using a leave-in conditioner before swimming provides additional protection.
What is a move-up or reinstall appointment?
As your natural hair grows, the extensions will move away from your scalp. A move-up or reinstall appointment involves removing the extensions, inspecting your natural hair, and reattaching the extensions closer to the root. This keeps the extensions looking natural and ensures they remain comfortable and secure. These appointments are typically scheduled every six to eight weeks.
Why do you use Christian Michael extensions?
Christian Michael is a premium extension brand known for its exceptional quality, ethically sourced Remy hair, and natural texture. The hair maintains its quality through multiple installations, offers a wide range of colors for perfect matching, and blends seamlessly with natural hair. We believe in using only the best products for our clients, and Christian Michael consistently delivers the quality and results we demand.
Am I a good candidate for extensions?
Most people are excellent candidates for extensions. Whether you have fine, medium, or thick hair, our stylists can customize an extension plan that works for your specific hair type. The best way to determine your candidacy is to schedule a complimentary consultation, where we will assess your hair and discuss your goals in detail.
Why is a consultation required before getting extensions?
A consultation is essential because every extension installation is completely customized. Your stylist needs to assess your hair type, condition, and density, determine the ideal method and number of wefts, perform color matching, and discuss your goals and expectations. This thorough preparation ensures that your installation day goes smoothly and that you get the exact result you are hoping for.
Aftercare Tips for Hair Extensions
Proper care is essential for maintaining the beauty and longevity of your extensions:
- Brush gently with a loop brush or extension-safe brush starting from the ends and working up. Avoid pulling or tugging near the attachment points.
- Use sulfate-free, extension-safe shampoo and conditioner. Apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends only, avoiding the bonds or tape.
- Wash no more than two to three times per week to preserve the bonds and maintain the hair’s condition.
- Never sleep with wet extensions. Always blow-dry your hair at least 80 percent before bed to prevent matting and bond weakening.
- Braid loosely or tie in a low ponytail before sleeping and use a silk or satin pillowcase.
- Use heat protectant before styling and keep hot tool temperatures moderate to extend the life of the extension hair.
- Keep all maintenance appointments on schedule to protect your natural hair and keep your extensions looking seamless.
