About Our Keratin Treatment Services

Keratin treatments are among the most effective professional solutions for taming frizz, reducing curl, smoothing texture, and creating manageability in unruly or hard-to-style hair. At Studio 360 Salon in Chatham Township, New Jersey, we offer a range of keratin-based smoothing services to suit every hair type, lifestyle, and desired level of straightening. Whether you want a subtle softening of your natural wave, dramatic smoothing of thick, coarse hair, or permanent straightening for a completely sleek look, our experienced stylists will customize a keratin treatment that delivers the results you are looking for.

Keratin is a natural protein that makes up the structure of your hair. Over time, exposure to heat, chemical processing, environmental stress, and daily wear can deplete your hair’s natural keratin, leading to frizz, dullness, and breakage. Professional keratin treatments work by infusing a concentrated keratin solution into the hair shaft and sealing it in with heat, replenishing the protein that has been lost and creating a smoother, stronger, shinier surface. The result is hair that is significantly easier to manage, dramatically less frizzy, and beautifully glossy.

We offer three tiers of keratin smoothing at Studio 360 to accommodate different needs and budgets. Our Express Keratin is a lighter, faster version of the treatment that delivers noticeable smoothing and frizz reduction for up to six weeks, making it ideal for clients who want a quick improvement or who are trying keratin for the first time. Our Full Keratin treatment provides maximum smoothing and frizz elimination that lasts three to five months, dramatically transforming texture, reducing styling time, and providing outstanding humidity protection. For clients who want permanent, pin-straight hair, our Japanese Straightening service permanently restructures the hair shaft for a completely smooth, straight result that lasts until new growth comes in.

Living in New Jersey means contending with humidity that can turn even the best salon blowout into a frizzy mess within minutes of stepping outside. Keratin treatments are exceptionally effective at combating this regional challenge. By creating a protective protein layer around each hair strand, keratin treatments seal the cuticle against moisture intrusion, keeping your hair smooth, sleek, and frizz-free no matter how oppressive the humidity. For our clients in Chatham Township and the surrounding communities, this humidity protection is often cited as the single most valuable benefit of their keratin treatment.

Why Choose Studio 360 for Keratin Treatment

Keratin treatments require precision, experience, and a thorough understanding of hair chemistry to deliver safe, beautiful, long-lasting results. At Studio 360 Salon, our stylists are extensively trained in multiple keratin systems and carefully assess each client’s hair type, condition, and goals before recommending a specific treatment. We never take a one-size-fits-all approach, because the ideal keratin treatment for fine, wavy hair is very different from the one that works best on thick, coarse curls. Clients from Chatham Township, Chatham Borough, Madison, Summit, and New Providence trust our team because we deliver consistently excellent results and honest, expert guidance.

Located at 650 Shunpike Road in Chatham Township, Studio 360 Salon attracts keratin treatment clients from a wide radius, including Berkeley Heights, Morristown, Florham Park, Livingston, Short Hills, Millburn, Springfield, Westfield, Basking Ridge, Mendham, and Warren. Our clients appreciate that we offer three different levels of keratin service, allowing them to choose the treatment that best fits their desired level of smoothing, their budget, and their maintenance preferences. Whether you want a quick express treatment to tame seasonal frizz or a full Japanese straightening for permanent smoothness, we have the right solution for you.

The humidity in New Jersey is a constant challenge for anyone trying to maintain smooth, styled hair. Our keratin treatments are specifically designed to combat this environmental factor, providing a shield of protection that keeps your hair looking salon-perfect even on the most oppressive summer days. Clients from Scotch Plains, Maplewood, South Orange, West Orange, East Hanover, Morris Plains, Long Hill Township, and Harding Township regularly tell us that their keratin treatment from Studio 360 has transformed their relationship with their hair, freeing them from the daily battle with frizz and humidity.

What to Expect During Your Keratin Treatment Appointment

Step 1: Consultation & Assessment. Your stylist will assess your hair type, texture, porosity, and condition, and discuss your smoothing goals. Together, you will choose the treatment level—Express Keratin, Full Keratin, or Japanese Straightening—that best suits your needs.

Step 2: Clarifying Wash. Your hair is cleansed with a clarifying shampoo to remove buildup and open the cuticle, allowing the keratin solution to penetrate effectively. This step is essential for achieving maximum treatment absorption and long-lasting results.

Step 3: Keratin Application. The keratin solution is applied methodically section by section, ensuring complete and even coverage. Your stylist will use a fine-tooth comb to distribute the product evenly, ensuring every strand is coated from root to tip.

Step 4: Blow-Dry & Flat Iron Sealing. After the product is applied, your hair is blow-dried and then sealed with a professional flat iron at a carefully controlled temperature. Your stylist will pass the iron over small sections multiple times to ensure the keratin is properly bonded to each strand. This step is the most critical for achieving lasting results.

Step 5: Final Rinse & Style. For some keratin treatments, a final rinse is performed after the sealing step, followed by a finishing blow-dry and style. Your stylist will review the aftercare instructions, including any waiting period before washing (varies by treatment type) and product recommendations for maintaining your results. Expect to spend two to four hours in the salon depending on the treatment type and your hair length and density.

Keratin Treatment FAQs

How long does a keratin treatment last?

Express Keratin treatments last up to six weeks, Full Keratin treatments last three to five months, and Japanese Straightening is permanent on treated hair (new growth will come in with your natural texture and will need to be treated as it grows). Longevity depends on your hair type, washing frequency, and the products you use at home.

What is the difference between a keratin treatment and Japanese straightening?

Keratin treatments smooth the cuticle and reduce frizz while allowing you to maintain some of your natural wave or curl. They gradually fade over time. Japanese Straightening permanently restructures the hair bonds for a completely straight result. The straightened hair will remain straight permanently, but new growth will come in with your natural texture.

Is keratin treatment safe for color-treated hair?

Yes, most keratin treatments are safe for color-treated hair and can actually help seal in color for extended vibrancy. However, we recommend scheduling your color service before your keratin treatment, ideally one to two weeks prior. Your stylist will advise you on the best timing during your consultation.

Will a keratin treatment make my hair completely straight?

Express and Full Keratin treatments smooth and relax your natural texture without making it completely straight. If you have wavy hair, you can expect a much smoother, sleeker wave. If you have curly hair, you can expect a significantly looser, more relaxed curl. For completely straight results, Japanese Straightening is the appropriate choice.

Is there a waiting period before I can wash my hair after a keratin treatment?

This depends on the specific treatment used. Some newer formulations, like the Brazilian Blowout, allow same-day washing. Traditional keratin treatments may require a waiting period of 48 to 72 hours. Your stylist will provide specific aftercare instructions based on the treatment you receive.

Which keratin treatment is right for me?

The best treatment depends on your hair type, your desired level of smoothing, your budget, and your maintenance preferences. Express Keratin is ideal for a quick, affordable smoothing boost. Full Keratin is best for maximum frizz elimination and long-lasting smoothness. Japanese Straightening is for clients who want permanent straightness. A complimentary consultation will help determine the perfect option for you.

How does humidity in New Jersey affect the results?

Keratin treatments are actually most beneficial in humid climates like New Jersey’s. The sealed cuticle prevents moisture from penetrating and causing frizz, which means your hair will stay smooth and polished even on the most humid summer days. Many of our NJ clients get keratin treatments specifically because of the dramatic improvement they see in humidity resistance.

Can I get a keratin treatment if I have fine hair?

Yes! Keratin treatments are suitable for fine hair, though your stylist may recommend a lighter formulation or Express Keratin to avoid weighing down your strands. The key is working with an experienced stylist who understands how to customize the treatment for your specific hair type and density.

How much time will a keratin treatment save me on daily styling?

Most clients report cutting their daily blow-dry and styling time by 40 to 60 percent after a keratin treatment. Hair dries faster, requires less heat to smooth, and maintains its style throughout the day. For clients who typically spend 30 to 45 minutes on their hair each morning, this can translate to significant daily time savings.

Aftercare Tips for Keratin-Treated Hair

Protect your keratin investment with these professional aftercare guidelines:

  • Use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner exclusively. Sulfates strip the keratin coating and dramatically shorten the life of your treatment.
  • Reduce washing frequency to two or three times per week to preserve the treatment longer.
  • Avoid sodium chloride (salt) in hair products, as it can break down the keratin barrier.
  • Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and maintain smoothness while you sleep.
  • Avoid heavy oils and silicones that can create buildup and weigh down keratin-treated hair.
  • Protect from chlorine by wetting hair with clean water and applying conditioner before swimming in treated pools.
  • Follow your stylist’s specific aftercare instructions for the particular treatment you received, including any waiting period before the first wash.
